n8n and WhatsApp event-to-action implementation

Map inbound WhatsApp events to owned business actions and outgoing messages to delivery status. n8n's WhatsApp Business Cloud node supports messaging operations; account access still needs verification.

Who this suits

Teams connecting approved WhatsApp Business Platform activity to business workflows.

When a simpler option is a better fit

A manual Business app inbox may be enough if no structured system update or event processing is required.

Data flow and sync direction

  1. Validate and identify the inbound event

  2. Route its approved fields into the target business record

  3. Send an eligible response and capture failed delivery for review

API and account prerequisites

  • Business Platform credentials and permissions
  • n8n environment and secure secret storage
  • Approved templates where required and a failed-send queue

Limits and exceptions

Separate webhook intake from outbound sending. Repeated events must not produce repeated actions. Template approval and account restrictions cannot be guaranteed by a workflow developer.

Implementation cost drivers

Estimate event volume, processing steps, message fees and support separately. Confirm current official messaging costs for the actual markets.

Acceptance and measurement

Test duplicate inbound events, rejected templates and failed deliveries. A successful node execution is not proof the customer received a message.

Questions before starting
